John Aschenbrenner
John Aschenbrenner received a Diploma in Piano Performance from Trinity College of Music, London, and a Bachelor’s in Music from the University of California at Berkeley. He was originally a piano student of Denise Lassimone, protégée of the Royal College of Music’s great Dame Myra Hess. He attended the University of Southern California as a graduate student in the Film Music program and is the winner of an Emmy Award for Composition, the Drama Critics’ Circle Award, the Dramalogue Award, and the Meet The Composer Award in NYC.
As an accompanist, John has played for many prominent violinists, cellists, and vocalists, and was head of the Chamber Music Program at Kent School, where he helped many young artists prepare for recitals and recordings. He has also appeared as a conductor and pianist for opera and theatre, including on Broadway (My One and Only, 42nd Street) and with the San Francisco Opera. His compositions have been recorded by the American Symphony Orchestra and are still in print with Sterling Records.
John taught piano in Westchester to children with a variety of disabilities, including Tourette’s, Down’s, Autism, and Asperger’s, and from that experience developed the piano method PIANO BY NUMBER, which is a popular method for all children. He is known for his ability to engage kids with the piano and excite their interest.
Most recently, John has taught Piano at Kent Preparatory School and The Marvelwood School in Kent, Connecticut.
