Wendy Kerner

Wendy Kerner, a harpist, maintains an active teaching studio in Wilton, CT and she is an adjunct Professor of Harp at Sacred Heart University. Her students have won awards for harp performance from the National Federation of Music Clubs, the American Harp Society, the Stamford Symphony, and Manhattanville College. Numerous students have participated in area youth symphonies. Ms. Kerner founded the Elyrica Summer Chamber Music Program, now in its seventeenth year. This week-long event features harp and flute students in various combinations, making music and having fun together. Ms. Kerner was chosen to judge the Karl Carlson National Harp Competition in California, and the American Harp Society National Competition in Delaware. She has worked with Young Audiences and the Lincoln Center Student Program, performing extensively for schools. She is also the Vice President of the CT Chapter of the American Harp Society.

 

Ms. Kerner, who began the harp at the age of seven, was a scholarship student at The Juilliard School where she studied with Susann McDonald and received her Bachelor and Master of Music Degrees in Harp Performance. Ms. Kerner was presented in her New York debut in Carnegie Recital Hall as a winner of the Artists International Competition. She has appeared in concert throughout the United States, performed at the World Harp Congress in Paris, France, and Seattle, Washington, played for the Prime Minister of Ireland, Queen Sirikit of Thailand, former First Lady Hillary Clinton. She is a founding member of the Irish music group “Themselves”, and is also the principal harpist with The Bridgeport, Norwalk, and Ridgefield Symphonies in Connecticut. Her CD “Sounds of the Seine” with flutist Donna Milanovich is available on the Delos label.
