Walter Winterfeldt
A native New Yorker, pianist Walter Winterfeldt received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from the Manhattan School of Music. Active as a vocal coach, accompanist, and chamber musician, his principal teachers include Raymond Lewenthal, and Dalton Baldwin with whom he studied vocal accompanying. A recipient of the Chaminade Music Award Mr. Winterfeldt twice received the Gramma Fisher Award for studies in Europe, has performed extensively throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, Austria, and Switzerland and has recorded several CDs of solo, vocal, and chamber music.
In addition to collaborating with artists such as Gérard Souzay, Hermann Prey, Thomas Hampson, and Denyce Graves, Walter has served on the faculties of the Manhattan School of Music, Hofstra University, and Sarah Lawrence College. Currently, he teaches at Manhattan College and maintains a private vocal coaching studio in New York City.
